Blog 8: English Language Challenges

Imagen
Hi everyone! This was my first English course and I had a really good experience in it. I liked a lot that this course's focus was to use English more that learn grammar and that stuff. I think that grammar is important but, to learn a language, the most important aspect is to use it. Considering that, I think that writing the blogs was a really good way to use English. Also, the topics we had to write were interesting and motivate the writing, especially the free topics we vote in classes. I also liked a lot the topics we discuss in classes through interviews, poems, videos, and texts. I think that one of the major things that I'm thankful for this course is the new authors that the teacher showed us. I would like to read some of them on my vacation. I think that one aspect I need to improve is to talk more freely and fluidly about diverse topics. Making the videos I notice that talking confidently is hard for me. I think that a way I could improve this is by talking...

Blog 7: Music

Imagen
I recommend you to listen to this while you're reading ↑↑↑↑↑ Hi everyone! Today I'm going to talk about music. I'm really into music, so it's really hard for me to choose one artist to write about, but lately, I have been listening to a particular musician a lot. Hope you enjoy the reading! I listen to a lot of old music, but if I think in current music there is an artist that stands out: Robert Glasper. He is an American composer, pianist, and producer that has a jazz rooted discography that blends with hip-hop and soul. I love his work mixing genres but, especially, his intent on doing culturally relevant music and considerating the power of music to communicate even without words. He has recorded albums as a soloist and in groups. My favorite albums are Collagically Speaking (2018), by a group called R+R=NOW (Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Christian Scott, Derrick Hodge, Taylor McFerrin, Justin Tyson) that is a jazz reflection on society and culture, a...

Blog 6: Postgraduate Studies

Imagen
I haven't thought so seriously about the idea of taking a postgraduate study but I think I would like to take one because I really like to learn and this also improves your job opportunities. However, this could change depending on my life interests. I don't know specific postgraduates but subjects I would like to study are related to the anthropology of music, multiculturalism, identity, and Latin American studies.  I would like to study abroad because that gives you the opportunity of seeing your reality from another perspective and I would like to live in another country. Therefore, I would like to study in person and part-time, to have the opportunity of doing other things like meet people and play music. About study anthropology of music, I would like to study in the US because of the musical history that they have and how this music is related to topics like racism, identity, and sociopolitical themes. Also because I really love black music and I would like ...

Blog 5: My future job

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today I'm going to talk about my hypothetical future job. I really haven't thought so much about my future job because I'm present-focused, but considering my interests I think that a job I would like to have (maybe in a very idealistic way) is to work as a cultural manager organizing social, art and cultural events. This could be either outdoors and indoors or both, depending on the event. I would like to do this because I'm really into arts and its sociopolitical and cultural relevance. As a pianist, I have had the opportunity to play in diverse events and I enjoy that a lot, so this job could also give me the opportunity to play music occasionally in these events. Depending on the event focus and planning, this could also allow me to travel, but I would like to do this in Chile because I think Chile has great artists, an important heritage of art reflecting the social times and a tremendous artistic potential. My two older brothers are artists s...
